A good place to build your career

Change started in 2014, when Stacey McVeighty set out to run the kind of practice she’d have wanted to be a client of: independent, plain-speaking, no telling-off, no surprise invoices. 12 years on, we look after around 800 clients across Yorkshire and the UK, with a team of 14.

We’ve grown, and we’re still growing. When the team from Sunley & Co joined us, they brought years of experience and a book of long-standing clients with them, and everyone now works together from our York office. For anyone building a career here, that mix matters: there’s a lot of knowledge close at hand, and it’s all available to you.

We’re also deliberately small. A team of 14 means you’re known by name from your first week, not a number in a department. It means you’ll see the whole of what a practice does rather than one narrow slice of it, from personal tax and company accounts to payroll, VAT and cloud accounting. And it means the people who do the work are the people the clients actually speak to.

Your work stays here

A quick word on something we feel strongly about. When you work at Change, you do the work. We don’t send accounts off to a processing centre somewhere else and wait for them to come back. The client you’re looking after is a real business, often just up the road, and the person preparing their accounts is you, sitting in York, learning how that business actually runs.

That’s better for clients, and it’s a good deal more interesting for the people who work here. The satisfying parts of accountancy, the puzzle-solving and the client relationships, are the parts we keep in-house.

What you get

Unlimited holiday. Take the time you need for your health, your family, and the things that matter to you. We trust people to get their work done and to know when they need a break.

Flexible and hybrid working. Part-time, hybrid, and a staggered return after a break are all things we can talk about. We’d rather find an arrangement that works than lose a good person over the shape of the week.

Support to qualify. We fund CPD and back people through their professional qualifications. If you’re ambitious, we’ll help you get where you’re going.

Varied work. A broad client base across trades, construction, property, consultants, creative and marketing agencies, software and tech, and more, so no two weeks look quite the same.

Free parking and easy to reach. Free on-site parking at our York office, with good bus links if you’d rather leave the car at home.

Nothing quite right, but you like the sound of us?

We’d still like to hear from you. Send us your CV and a line about what you’re looking for, and we’ll keep it on file for when something opens up. We’d always rather hear from the right person early.

Apply anyway

Start at the beginning: apprenticeships

Not qualified yet, or just leaving school or college? You don’t need a degree to become an accountant, and you don’t need to pay for your training. Our apprenticeship scheme lets you earn a salary from day one while you study for a nationally recognised qualification, with a qualified accountant alongside you throughout.
